VERTICAL SUNDIALS
The vertical sundial has been a feature of European towns since the Roman Empire. Even today, a stroll around any historic city centre reveals a variety of such sundials. In Oxford, for instance, among gems from the past, you'll find a stunning David Harber dial commissioned by Magdalen College for the millennium.
Crucial to vertical sundials is the accurate measurement of the declination of the wall to the sun and materials and colours must be chosen to complement the host building.
